Reconstruction of medical care in the Kupyansk region (Ukraine)

Containers as modular medical practices – rebuilding basic medical care in a war zone

In the Kupyansk region of eastern Ukraine, people live amidst destroyed infrastructure.

The war destroyed not only their homes but also their access to medical care. Our current project in the region is restoring urgently needed medical infrastructure and giving people the basic security of rapid assistance in emergencies.

With your support, we can build, set up, and equip small medical facilities in the form of containers. With your help, we can once again ensure basic healthcare services.

The war and its consequences for the people of Kupyansk

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, countless people have lost their homes, their safety, and their basic means of survival. The Kupyansk region in the Kharkiv Oblast is particularly affected, having been devastated by ongoing fighting. In villages like Shevchenkove, just 40 kilometers from Kupyansk, all medical facilities have been destroyed. 10,000 people in the Shevchenkove region lack access to basic medical care. Once again, children, the elderly, and women, who are in dire need of medical assistance, are especially vulnerable. Without medical infrastructure, access to medication, treatment for injuries and chronic illnesses, and maternity care is virtually impossible.

The need to rebuild basic medical care is therefore essential to ensure the survival and health of the people in the region.

Modular medical care for five villages

Together with the local administration in Kupyansk, we have developed a clear plan to give the people in the region a new perspective. The project includes the construction of six medical containers, which will be installed in five villages in the Kupyansk region.

Here's how the project works:

1. Infrastructure development:
  • One medical container per village serves as a modular treatment room.

  • The containers will be equipped with treatment rooms, waiting areas and modern equipment (e.g. blood pressure monitors, treatment couches, pulse oximeters).

2. On-site coordination:
  • An experienced team of Ukrainian specialists will handle the installation of the containers.

  • Local doctors and medical staff will provide care.

3. Long-term perspectives:
  • Through our cooperation with a Ukrainian container manufacturer, we are not only promoting medical care, but also the domestic economy.

4. Rapid implementation:
  • Each location will be operational by April 2025 at the latest.

This project is made possible by our many years of experience in Ukraine. Since 2022, we have already distributed over 500 tons of aid supplies, supported medical facilities, and established soup kitchens in Kharkiv and Kherson.
