Humanitarian emergency aid in northern and southern Syria
Damascus fell without much resistance on the night of December 8, 2024.
The rebels announced the fall of Bashar al-Assad on Syrian state television. The 54-year reign of terror by the Assad family had come to an end.
The humanitarian situation remains catastrophic.
Following the change of power in Syria, the humanitarian situation remains catastrophic. 12.9 million people cannot adequately feed themselves without aid. After 13 years of civil war, the economic situation is dire and agricultural production is severely restricted. This is unlikely to change quickly even after the change of power in the country.
Emergency humanitarian aid
Given the sometimes dramatic situation, we are currently planning to conduct an "assessment trip" to Syria as soon as possible with a small team. We want to see the situation on the ground for ourselves.
Nevertheless, our cardinal rule still applies here: "Don't come with empty hands!"
An overview of our planned ad hoc aid measures:
Distribution of aid supplies:
Providing mattresses, blankets and pillows to give families a minimum level of comfort in their temporary accommodations.
Distribution of food and hygiene kits to meet basic needs.
Distribution of power banks to ensure access to communication and information.
In the first phase, in consultation with our local partner, we are supporting approximately 100 people with essential supplies. In the long term, we plan to expand our aid to reach as many people as possible. The humanitarian situation in Syria is catastrophic. Women and children, the most vulnerable group, are suffering the most. With your support, we can provide life-saving emergency assistance and ensure that those affected have at least the bare necessities.
Upon our return and based on the findings from the assessment trip, we will consider further measures in the areas of (training) education and medical support and hopefully be able to implement them quickly.
